Ira Udow

IRA UDOW, PRINCIPAL OF BROCK CORYDON RETIRING AT END OF THIS SCHOOL YEAR

by Rhonda Spivak, May 18, 2012

Ira Udow, long-time principal of Brock Corydon Hebrew Bilingual School is retiring at the end of this school year.
Applications for a new school principal are in and the successful candidate should be chosen soon.
When interviewed by the Winnipeg Jewish Review at the Herzlia dinner last night, Udow said he had no  plans in particular, although he will be going out to the beach this weekend.
He also may not be able to attend the JNF Gala this year, as his retirement dinner from the school division is the same night. He said he doesn’t know what the menu for his retirement dinner will be. Apparently, the event is sold out.
It will be interesting to see if Brock Corydon's next principal will be Jewish.
“I am not at all involved in the selection of the next principal,” says Udow.

Marcie Knight, Udow’s spouse, says she also is not involved in the selection of the next principal. Not only that, she says she is not retiring.

Udow is the current chair of Manitoba’s UNESCO Associated Schools Network and a member of the Manitoba Education for Sustainable Development Working Group.

Although Udow is retiring he will be giving a session at the Sustainability: Educating for ACTion Conference in November 2012. His topic is "Exploring the Relationship between ESD and Cultural Diversity within the Elementary Classroom."

According to the Conference's website, "This presentation will showcase a cultural diversity project that brings together Grades 5 and 6 students from five UNESCO-affiliated schools in Winnipeg, including an Islamic, Catholic, Aboriginal, public, and Hebrew bilingual school. It will investigate the key innovative teaching processes that underpin ESD frameworks and practices as well as the related learning opportunities that contribute to sustainability within the context of cultural diversity education."
